We continued our discussion on belief.  We examined the resurrection of Jesus by asking a few questions: Why should we take the resurrection accounts seriously? and What Should the Resurrection of Jesus Matter to Us?  You may find teaching notes and audio here.

Honduras Orphanage Drive

This summer we will be collecting items for our Honduras Orphanage Drive.  Needed items include bedding (twin size sheets and blankets), clothes (warm/hot weather), shoes, school supplies, towels and washcloths, and personal hygiene products.  The orphanage supports children of all ages including many teens.  You may also contribute financially to offset the cost of shipping.

Relay For Life

On Friday June 25, 2010 we will be participating in the Polk County Relay for Life.  We will be selling Barbecue to raise money.  The entire community is welcome to come.  Come hang out with us and support cancer research.

Twin Lakes Christian Community

We had our second Bible Study Meeting this week in Amery.  This is the first stage of our church planting efforts.  Our next Bible Study Fellowship Meeting will be June 20th at the Amery Area Senior Center.  Please invite friends and come attend.  We are studying the New Testament Church in the book of Acts.

In Worship 6/6/10

We took a breather from our specific discussions on Christian Belief to examine faith and the reasons we doubt.  Kevin Hikel taught us about identifying things in our lives that can cause us to doubt God’s activity in our lives.  While doubt itself is not a sin it can lead us down a path of forgetting what we know about God and forsaking his presence in our lives.  Doubt properly dealt with will challenge us to go deeper into our faith and to pursue God more fervently.  You may listen to the teaching here.  Also in our Worship Gathering we featured an original song by Kaija Hikel who provided the music for our taking communion.

Twin Lakes Christian Community

We have begun hosting regular Bible Study Fellowship Meetings in Amery in support of our church planting efforts there.  We had several people from our fellowship show up to minister and 5 people from Amery.  It was a great start to our grassroots approach to church planting.

Our next meeting will be held on June 13, 2010 at the Amery Area Senior Center.  Please continue to pray for this effort as well as volunteer some Sunday nights to help minister.  The focus of our study is on the New Testament Church in the book of Acts.  We will also be sharing the vision for the church.

In Worship 5/30/10

We continued our discussion on belief specifically is it true that we can consider doing something wrong as “sin”?  We examined the reality that if God exists in the sense that we have been discussing then sin does exist.  Sin presents a problem for us because we transgress against an ethically perfect God whose justice is incorruptible.  What remedy then is there for sin?  How does God satisfy the law without punishing the offenders?  Teaching notes and audio can be found here.

Twin Lakes Christian Community

We will host our first weekly Bible Study Fellowship meeting this Sunday June 6, 2010 at 6pm.  This fellowship will meet at the Amery Senior Center located at 608 Harriman Avenue South.

We will begin by studying the New Testament Church in the book of Acts as well as sharing the vision for this community of believers.  Childcare will be provided for children 5 years and younger.

Ministry to Children Update

Our ministry to children is taking a two-week break.  We are planning a series of summer activities to children ages Pre-K through 2nd Grade to take place during our Sunday worship gatherings.  Those activities will begin in June 13.

In Worship 5/23/10

Continuing in our series on belief, we discussed a topic that every worldview must eventually deal with – standards of right and wrong.  What are standards for right and wrong?  Who decides what they are? And why are we to submit ourselves to them?  There are many questions that every philosophical/religious world view must answer concerning ethics.  In this discussion we debated whether or not it is good enough to live good moral lives or whether something else may be required.  To find out click here for teaching notes and audio.

Amery Church (Twin Lakes Christian Community)

We have been able to secure a location where we can establish a weekly Bible Study Fellowship in Amery.  We will launch this fellowship at the Amery Senior Center beginning on June 6, 2010.  The fellowship begins at 6:00 pm.  Please visit our Twin Lakes Page for more information.

2nd Annual NLCC Crawfish Boil
